RICK
"Rick has been a member of CFMV since day 1. He is one of the biggest supporters of our community and is always willing to offer a helping hand. Prior to the COVID Pandemic Rick was one of our CF Kids coaches. He helped launch and grow that programming to new heights offering amazing coaching and mentorship to every child in the program. Although we get older and priorities change (family career) Rick continues to find the time to get his fitness on. Rick has a huge presence and to this day is one of the strongest people in our community. We call him "Strict Rick" because of his ability to muscle clean large amounts of weight. Rick, thanks for everything you have done over the years for our community. We would not be the same without you!!" COACH CHRIS
What do you enjoy most about being a member of CrossFit Middle Village?
Crossfit Middle Village has been a second home to me since it opened. I’ve met
a lot of amazing people and have forged powerful friendships. There’s no better
place to go to get crushed in a workout and have fun doing it. Not only have I
been a member since they gym opened but I also had the privilege of coaching
the kids program. It’s been a life changing experience being part of the CVMV
family.
How/when did you get involved in CrossFit?
I was a member of Force Fitness Club when Coach Chris came in and started
Crossfit Ridgewood. I started foundations then unfortunately hurt my knee at
work. I was out for a few months, and when I came back, I continued to rehab my
knee by working 1on 1 with Coach Chris. The rest was history.
What was your first CrossFit workout? How did you feel afterwards?
The first workout I remember doing with Coach Chris was Diane. It was right up
my alley. Deadlifts and Handstand pushups! It felt amazing and was probably the
fastest I’ve ever finished it.
What do you enjoy most about CrossFIt?
I love the varied programming and the physical challenges it presents. I also love
showing up to a class with a group of people with all different backgrounds,
careers and families yet we are all there for the same reason, which is the make
ourselves better.
What is your favorite WOD or Lift? What is your least favorite WOD or Lift?
My favorite lifts are the strict press, back squats and kettle bell work. My least
favorite are gymnastic movements because they require flexibility!
What motivates you? How has CrossFit changed you?
My family and job motivate me! Both are extremely physical and mental. Crossfit
helps me stay strong, healthy, and focused for the challenges they both present.
What were your goals when you started this journey?
My main goal when I started Crossfit 10 years ago was to be strong, stay healthy,
and have fun. Now it’s the same goal but I’m 10 years older with a family. I want
to be able to be as active as possible with my family. Sports and being outdoors
is a very important part of our lives.
What are your goals for the upcoming year?
My goals for upcoming year are just continuing to lift some heavy weight and
have fun doing it. The gym is electric when everyone is throwing some weight
around!
Do you have any advice for new members?
My advice for new members would be to try something new and to just move. You’ll
never know unless you try it.
