JANNA HENNIKOFF

"Janna has been a member of ours since June of 2020.I remember she did her very first drop in with me during the outdoor classes we were holding. It was a time we were all so grateful to be back to working out. She joined after that and has been with us ever since. Janna is someone you can always count on to support the community. She has been at almost every event we have have had. Whether she participated or was there to cheer her fellow athletes and coaches on. As a teacher and a single parent, she has some pretty exhausting days, yet she fights through it and shows up to do her thing and give her best. We love having you as a part of our community and Janna you should be very proud of yourself for being the strong, fit mom you are, we sure are."

-Coach Julia

What do you enjoy most about being a member of CrossFit Middle Village? I love the support and motivation that everyone gives each other. I like that there is a circuit room and a Crossfit, so there are two workouts to choose between every day. The coaches are amazing and always bring great energy.

How/when did you get involved in CrossFit? I started about 6 years ago. My friend had me drop into her Crossfit box when I was looking for a new gym.

What was your first CrossFit workout? How did you feel afterwards? My first workout was kettle bell swings and squat cleans. I used an empty bar and I still had trouble. When I left I told my friend she was crazy if she thinks I’m joining because I was never going to be able to lift heavy weights. I was sore for the next four days, and didn’t go back for a month.

What do you enjoy most about CrossFIt? What I like most is knowing that every day there is a different workout so it never feels boring.

What is your favorite WOD or Lift? My favorite lifts are power cleans and dumbbell snatches.

What is your least favorite WOD or Lift? I hate thrusters more than anything!

What motivates you? How has CrossFit changed you? What motivates me is knowing that I always feel better after working out. No matter how tired or lazy I feel, I know I’ll feel worse if I don’t workout. I think Crossfit has changed me because it has given me the discipline to show up every day and not make excuses.

What were your goals when you started this journey? My goals were to get fit and to become more healthy.

What are your goals for the upcoming year? I’m hoping to motivate myself to goto morning classes before work. Getting in your workout at the beginning of the day is the best feeling. I also want to get over my fear of getting up on the bar.

Do you have any advice for new members? Keep showing up. It will feel hard at first, but the more you show up, the easier it will feel. You’ll be surprised at the things you’ll be able to do in a few months that you never thought you could when you first started.
